Once upon a time there was a great lion king called Mufasa. He is one of the most beloved and respected kings in the history of the Pridelands. His queen, Sarabi, showed great courage and gumption during her time at his side, and following his death. Their son, Simba, was the following ruler, along side a feisty queen Nala, and together they raised our former queen at Pride Rock, Kiara. This lineage is well known around Pride Rock and the rest of the Pridelands, and parents tell their adventurous stories to cubs all over.
Following the death of Zira, and Kiara's and Kovu's rise to the throne in the Pridelands, Kiara moved to allow all of the lions of the Outlands move to the Pridelands. This was a popular move on her part, and most the the outsiders became Pridelanders during that time. It became an era of peace.
This is a new era in the Pridelands, however.
Though Vitani was the first Outsider to join Kovu's side with the Pridelanders, losing Nuka and Zira took a toll on her, and she began to blame Kiara for her mother's death. She resented the new queen, as well as her brother, and often found herself in conflict with the two. This constant struggle reached it's climax when Kiara was discovered to be pregnant. In one last fight with the queen, Vitani declared that Kiara didn't deserve the cubs and that she would be a terrible mother. Fearing for the safety of his mate, and perplexed by his sister's hatred, Kovu took Vitani aside and privately banished her. Knowing Kiara would disagree because of her belief that the lions should all live together as one, he told his mate that Vitani left on her own.
Vitani moved back to the Outlands, angrier than ever, and made herself queen of the hyenas, who gladly accepted her as a fellow enemy of the lions. A few Outsiders had stayed behind, most because of grudges against the lineage of Mufasa, and some out of loyalty to the late Scar. This has caused many of the Pridelanders to fear another uprising from the Shadowlands, and there is an air of expectancy and dread across the Pridelands as a result. Some fear that Kovu won't be able to stop a threat from his sister if she attacks, because of his familial connection with her. Kovu still keeps the secret of his banishing his sister, and refuses to allow Kiara to visit Vitani. But as Kiara gets closer to her due date, she feels a pull to make things right with her sister-in-law.
Everything hangs in the balance.
